Your First Orthodontic Visit

Welcome to Humphrey Orthodontics! We know that making the decision to improve your oral health with orthodontic treatment is a big deal, and we appreciate your trust in us. We’re excited to help you take the first step towards a beautiful smile with your initial consultation!

Most of our new patients are unfamiliar with orthodontics and aren’t sure what to expect from the treatment process. Rest assured, we’ll work with you every step of the way to ensure your time with us is rewarding and stress-free. We want you to feel confident in our care from your first appointment to your last—and each one in between!

Keep reading below to learn more about what to expect from your free consultation with Dr. Humphrey.

Say hello to a healthier smile

Whether your appointment is scheduled for our Wentzville or Saint Peters office, you’ll be greeted with a smile as soon as you arrive. A member of our team will give you a brief tour of the office to help you feel more at home with the surroundings and then we’ll take a moment to look over your medical and dental history. Following this, we’ll take a few digital photographs of your teeth. We may also choose to do some x-rays or scans at this point if we want to get a better look at what’s happening beneath the surface of your gums.

Then it’s time to meet Dr. Humphrey! He’ll perform an oral examination and ask you a few questions about the concerns you have. The results of your exam, your dental history, and the images we collect are what we refer to as diagnostic records. These are what Dr. Humphrey will use to make an initial diagnosis, and how he will create a personalized treatment plan for your specific needs.

It’s important to us that you never feel rushed during an appointment, especially the very first one! This initial visit will usually last an hour or so. This gives us plenty of time to meet, get to know a bit about each other, and perform an exam. We’ll also go over your diagnosis and address any questions you may have at this point. You can expect us to discuss:

  • any oral issues you’ve been experiencing

  • if treatment is needed immediately or if we recommend waiting

  • what treatment options are available to you

  • an estimate of how long we expect treatment to take

  • the total investment required for your new smile

  • our payment or financing options

Here at Humphrey Orthodontics, we take a lot of pride in providing our patients with customized care that’s based on their unique smile, lifestyle, and goals. This approach allows us to consistently produce exceptional care, world-class service, and incredible results our patients love!

Your investment in improved oral health

After Dr. Humphrey has gone over your diagnosis and treatment options with you, we’ll break down the total investment needed for your new smile. Every case is different, so the treatment costs will vary from person to person, but you’ll never have to worry about hidden fees here at Humphrey Orthodontics! We’ll outline everything that is included in your individualized treatment plan and ensure you understand exactly what to expect before the active phase of treatment begins.

Your smile is forever and we want to help you care for it! That’s why we are dedicated to providing high-quality care and affordable treatments for every budget. In addition to accepting most major insurance plans, we also offer the following payment and financial options:

  • Preferred patient interest-free financing—we can customize a payment plan that will work for you and your family!

  • Paid-in-full discounts

  • Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts

  • Discounts for members of the Smile Advantage Dental Savings Plan

We accept all major credit cards and will set up automatic monthly payment options if it’s more convenient for your busy schedule. Additionally, our team is trained to assist you in determining your insurance coverage. If you have insurance that covers any portion of your orthodontic treatment, we’ll be happy to help you work out what those benefits will be even before your first free visit. We accept the following insurance plans.

  • Aetna

  • Anthem

  • and more!

The next step in your orthodontic journey

Now it’s time to get started on your smile! Once your consultation is complete, we’ll schedule an appointment for Dr. Humphrey to place or fit your new orthodontic appliance. You can expect this appointment to last for about an hour. During this time, our team will be available to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible and understand each step of the process!

Depending on the type of appliance indicated in your treatment plan, you’ll have follow-up visits with us every 4-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, Dr. Humphrey will assess your progress and check that your teeth are moving in a healthy way. If you’re wearing traditional braces, he’ll also take this time to make any necessary adjustments, and may change the wire as well.

These visits play a big role in the treatment process, so it’s important that you try not to miss any! We’ll always do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, but we know that you may end up running late or be unable to make your appointment sometimes. If this occurs, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible. We’ll be happy to reschedule your appointment for another day so we can keep your new smile on track!
